2019 Equity Innovator

From Great Lakes Equity Center: 

Our district’s innovative work with the Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center (MAP Center), a project of Great Lakes Equity Center, was rigorously evaluated and deemed the most noteworthy example of the pursuit of educational equity by an education agency for the 2018-2019 school year. Selected from several applicants, Ferndale Public Schools (FPS) was awarded the Equity Innovator Recognition.

Our district’s equity efforts were showcased at the Equity Innovator Recognition Ceremony, highlighting FPS for its dedication and commitment to students in ensuring all students access to and participation in safe, inclusive, high-quality education regardless of and responsive to race, sex, national origin, and religion.

As the 2018-19 Equity Innovator ,  Ferndale Public Schools was also awarded an honorarium of $5000 from the Great Lakes Equity Center.

2019 Innovative District 

Ferndale Public Schools has been recognized as an Innovative District by the International Center for Leadership in Education, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, for our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.

From the International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE):

Innovative Districts recognize the need for change, collectively establish a vision, and systematically work together to create a learning environment that enables students of all abilities to thrive. They focus on leveraging individual data to make instructional decisions and personalize instruction; balance rigor and relevance in interdisciplinary learning; and create equity, access, and opportunities for all.

2019-2020 Whole Child Award 

Ferndale Lower and Upper Elementary Schools have received the 2019-2020 Whole Child Award from Michigan ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), in conjunction with the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principal Association (MEMSPA)Michigan Assessment Consortium (MAC), and Learning Forward Michigan. This award seeks to identify schools in Michigan that have created a school culture with programs that exemplify one of the five tenets of this Initiative: Healthy, Safe, Supported, Challenged or Engaged. Ferndale Elementary Schools were recognized for embodiment of the tenant: Supported.
