The African American Read In featuring the author and illustrator Don Tate provided an enriching experience for PreK - 5 families. Families read and discussed Tate's book "Jerry Changed the Game" about revolutionary video game engineer Jerry Lawson. The interactive session allowed everyone to engage in creative activities like drawing, tinkering, and learning about famous inventors. "The event fosters a sense of connection through the story's themes," said FUEL Principal Katie Jeffrey. "Additionally, the opportunity to ask questions directly to the the author enhanced understanding and appreciation of the book's content and message. Overall, it was a rewarding experience for everyone."

Don Tate has also published children's books about super-soaker inventor Ernie Johnson, athlete & artist Ernie Barnes, and many other books that uplift the Black experience.
