speakers recognize Ferndale School's history

Last weekend, officials from our cities and school district gathered to acknowledge the past in service of the future. At the Grant School building—now home to TCEC, Royal Oak Township offices, and other civic partners—there is a historical marker recounting the history of redlining and racist administration in the past century of Ferndale Schools. Superintendent Camille Hibbler and Ferndale Mayor Raylon Leaks-May joined the panel to share their thoughts on how far we have come, and how we will continue toward where we ought to be. Thank you to Friend of Royal Oak Township for convening this event.

Superintendent Hibbler said, "By acknowledging and honoring the histories and experiences of all members of our community, we create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment for our students...As we commemorate this marker today, let us reflect on the lessons of the past and rededicate ourselves to building a future that is rooted in understanding, respect, and unity."
