The 5th Grade students in Mrs. Burgess and Mrs. Carp's class took an unforgettable tour of the Ford Rouge Factory. Students were immersed in two theater experiences in which they learned about the history of the Ford Motor Company as well as the manufacturing process. We also took a trip to the observation deck where we viewed one of the world's largest living roofs. The most popular part of the tour, however, took place on the elevated plant walkway (no pictures allowed) where we viewed an active assembly line. We were able to observe every part of the Ford F-150 and other models being assembled from start to finish. The students were in true awe of the robot that was utilized in placing and securing windshields on the vehicles. The students were able to learn a great deal about a very historic and integral part of the Detroit economy as well as develop an understanding behind specific careers in engineering and automation.
