Superintendent Hibbler attended “Lansing Day” along with numerous Superintendents from all across the state. The event, organized by K-12 Alliance, urged legislators to withhold support for any budget which eliminates state contributions to the educator retirement fund (Section 147.)
Since 2012, school districts and individual teachers have been required to contribute additional funds to restore the depleted pension program. Through a shared commitment and collective action, these funds are now restored and, in fact, overfunded. The legislature has proposed altering course by withdrawing their contribution, leaving the ongoing funding burden with schools and teachers. "It was a wonderful day. I left feeling heard and hopeful," said Superintendent Hibbler.
