‘Bridge to 6th’ was a 2 day event that allowed incoming 6th graders to meet classmates as well as staff.
On Wednesday, Day 1, students were separated into four teams: SOAR, IMPACT, EXCELLENCE, and THRIVE. With those teams, groups rotated through four 30 minute rotations. The rotations included: Math/STEM, Organization: Binder-building, Canvas tutorial and exploration, and SEL: Middle School Tips and Tricks.
On Thursday, Day 2, students first read and learned the affirmation that encompassed our expectations at FMS. Students signed the banner that will hang in the 6th grade hallway at FMS as a reminder to their commitment.
On to the fun part: Students had a blast on the bungee run and in the jousting arena. Students had time to hang out with friends and meet new students while eating popcorn and snow cones.
After, a raffle was held for different prizes that reinforced the rotations from Wednesday. (Multiplication/ division flash cards, math application games, STEM activities- including solar robots, SEL Transition cards from elementary to middle school, and much more!)
Students had a great time overall! It was hot, but I believe this 2-day event promoted the high expectations students can expect at FMS, integration of academic, social, and behavioral facets of middle school, and relationship-building.
