Ferndale High School on Thursday, Oct. 24th had the opportunity to view the on-the-road show, Beat The Streets. Its purpose is to remind students that they always have a choice to better themselves, rather than fall victim to the streets. Students found that the show was very relatable to everyday social issues that they may face personally. Special thanks to Ferndale Youth Assistance for sponsorship of the performance.

The Background
BEAT THE STREETS is an anti-bullying, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING experience that has impacted nearly 1 MILLION students in the U.S. The story is inspired by true events where three teenagers, from a poverty stricken neighborhood, make a promise to each other to become doctors. The play touches on cyber, physical, and verbal bullying as well as peer pressure, violence, and more as we show teenagers trying to maneuver through tough circumstances to accomplish their dream. We address the topics in a very real but student friendly way so that students will see themselves in our characters. We add new stories and new messages every year to keep our message fresh for students. Our program has inspired hundreds of thousands of students every year. We often hear unbelievable testimonies from the students telling us how the program has changed their lives. We look at Beat the Streets as more than a stage production or entertainment, we see it as a movement made by young people, for young people.
